Local Walks
Below are a number of walks that begin and end at the same point within the Goring Gap using public footpaths and bridleways. Some walks use part of the Ridgeway or Thames Path for short distances.
There is a pub associated with some walks, but there is no reason why you should not take a picnic to enjoy anywhere you find a good view (or sheltered spot in times of inclement weather) or visit one of the other eateries.
No responsibility can be taken should a named pub be closed or not serving food or drink. It is up to the walk party leader to check details before embarking on the walk. Phone numbers and web sites are included to help you.
Before you set out make sure that you have left word with someone of where you are going to walk and don't forget to tell them what time to expect you to return. You are also advised to carry the appropriate OS Map.
Remember that you are responsible for your own safety so don't take chances if the terrain is too difficult. Return the way you came. Look out for mud, tree roots, rabbit holes and other hazards. Make sure that stiles are sound and not slippery before you put your foot on the tread.
Whatever your choice of walk, enjoy it, and let us know what you thought of it - good or bad.

The Bell at Aldworth T: 01635 578272
An 8 mile walk, along part of the Ancient Ridgeway, to a delightful pub that has been voted the Most Unspoilt Pub in Britain for several years in a row. It serves a huge range of real ales (some local), a range of interesting snack meals and has a delightful garden. Returning down a lovely hidden valley before retracing the first 1½ miles back to the village centre. There is an option of a 4.9 mile circular route starting 2 miles out of the village. Both options are suitable for all abilities but do include a long fairly steep hill, both up and down. Not wheelchair friendly, but all terrain pushchairs should be OK. Please note that the Bell does not open on a Monday unless it is a Bank Holiday
